Where next Avram?

It's interesting to hear the comments this week of a man who we rarely hear from these days. I'm speaking of course about Avram Grant, who revealed to the JC that his next management move would be one that "surprised" us.

Well Mr Grant, I have been looking around at the various managerial vacancies and think to myself, there is no reason you shouldn't grace us with your presence in the dug-out once again.

Kissing my football career goodbye

It's amazing how some things in life can change so suddenly. In my last blog I expressed my excitement as I waited for the new football season to begin. But just one week ago my football career was ended forever.

I was playing a pre-season friendly, getting ready with my fellow team mates from Glenthorne United to compete in the great JC MSFL league which kicks off next Sunday (September 7).

Gearing up for the new season

Is anyone else getting excited about the new football seasons about to begin in the Premier League and JC MSFL?

This year, as always, I will be interested to see how my Spurs will do. I have to say it's a very different-looking team which, to be quite honest, can only be a good thing for us.

Is there something wrong with today’s Jewish education?

Since joining the JC almost a year ago now I realise that my knowledge of Jewish sayings, words and portions have been heavily increased, mainly thanks to a certain Comments Editor. However, it does make me wonder: why wasn’t I given a better grounding of Jewish education in high school?

From 11 to 18, I attended King Solomon in Essex. To be honest though, we only had one or two Jewish studies classes a week. I remember that not many students took them seriously. But we were always there, on time for our scheduled hour a week. That’s right, just one hour a week.

Where have all the Jewish Sportsmen and women gone?

These days I have to say there is a seriously lack of professional Jewish sportsmen and women, and one has to question as to when the breakthrough is going to come.

I am starting to worry, and rightfully so. This past week in the JC, Danny Caro interviewed the ONLY Jewish person to have won Wimbledon, over 50 years ago! Moving on from that, former Manchester City and Crystal Palace footballer Barry Silkman has been pretty much the only British Jew to play in the big time for a Premier League side.
